FILICS: Redefining Pallet Handling in Intralogistics

Where crowded warehouses meet growing pressure for speed, flexibility, and efficiency, Filics presents an unconventional approach to moving goods at ground level. As e-commerce volumes rise and storage space becomes increasingly scarce, intralogistics operators face mounting demands for smarter transport solutions. Founded in 2019 and based in Munich, Germany, the company develops a new generation of flat autonomous mobile robots for pallet and load-carrier transport. Its flagship product, the Filics Unit, consists of two omnidirectional robots that operate beneath standard Euro pallets, navigating autonomously through storage and distribution areas with minimal manoeuvring space. By rethinking how pallets are handled, Filics aims to streamline internal flows, reduce space requirements, and relieve workers from repetitive transport tasks.

Technology and Product

At the heart of Filics’ technology is its double-skid autonomous mobile robot, engineered specifically for horizontal pallet movement on the warehouse floor. In contrast to traditional AMRs or forklifts, the Filics Unit combines two independent, omnidirectional robot skids that can slide underneath and through pallets and load carriers to lift and transport them without fixed racks or transmission infrastructure.

Each robot uses on-board navigation systems to localise and move in tight spaces, reducing the footprint required for manoeuvring to almost the area of the pallet itself. This compact design opens possibilities for narrow block storage systems and more dynamic pallet flows in production and distribution centres. By integrating modular software and intuitive control, Filics’ solution adapts to varied load types — from standard pallets to mesh boxes — and supports seamless automation of horizontal transport processes.

Industrial Fit and Applications

Filics targets intralogistics environments where space efficiency and labour availability are critical constraints. The system is suited for production facilities, distribution centres, and block storage warehouses where horizontal pallet movement is frequent and repetitive. By operating within narrower layouts, the robots can support higher storage density compared with conventional transport solutions. The automation of ground-level pallet flows is intended to reduce manual handling, ease labour shortages, and increase throughput flexibility as warehouse layouts evolve.
