Hot meal production remains one of the least automated parts of modern service industries. Food-service in supermarkets, fuel stations, hospitals, and care facilities still depend heavily on manual labor, even as staffing becomes harder and costs rise. Based in Munich, Circus Group approaches this gap with an industrial mindset: Cooking is treated not as a craft process, but as a repeatable, software-controlled production task ensuring consistent quality and taste. The company’s focus lies on building reliable infrastructure for large-scale meal supply.

Technology and Product

Instead of automating individual kitchen appliances, the Circus system consolidates multiple functions into a single autonomous unit. The centerpiece is CA-1, a robotic cooking system designed as a closed production cell. Cooking, ingredient handling, cleaning, and packaging are coordinated by CircusOS, an AI-native operating system that manages workflows, monitors system states, and connects peripheral modules. The platform combines robotics, sensors, and software orchestration to reduce variability in food preparation. Modular components—such as automated ingredient storage and integrated clean-ing—are supporting continuous operation.

Industrial Fit and Applications

Where demand for hot meals is steady and margins are tight, automation becomes economically relevant. Circus Group targets retail food locations, insti-tutional catering, corporate campuses, care en-vironments, fuel stations and airports, where reliable output, long operating hours and consistent quality are essential. In these settings, autonomous meal-production can lower dependency on skilled kitchen labor and improve planning reliability. The system is positioned as an alternative to both traditional on-site kitchens and centralised food production, enabling decentralised preparation closer to the point of consumption. First deployments confirm the system’s operational viability and its potential to deliver measurable gains in cost efficiency and throughput through effective menu design and logistics integration.

Founding Team

The company was founded by serial entrepreneur Nikolas Bullwinkel, who serves as its CEO, with the goal of revolutionizing food service through intelligent technology, aiming to solve labour shortages and operational complexities.
