Regional air mobility sits between two worlds: the efficiency of fixed-wing aviation and the flexibility of vertical flight. Bridging this gap has become a central challenge in advanced air mobility, especially for routes that are too short for conventional airlines yet too long for current electric VTOL concepts. Zuri develops hybrid-electric VTOL aircraft designed to enable mid-range, on-demand travel without reliance on traditional airport infrastructure. The company focuses on combining vertical take-off and landing with efficient forward flight, allowing aircraft to operate across distributed landing sites while maintaining range and speed comparable to small airplanes. By integrating hybrid propulsion with fixed-wing aerodynamics, the approach aims to support more flexible regional mobility across passenger, cargo, and emerging logistics applications.
Technology and Product
A key challenge in advanced air mobility lies in balancing vertical lift capability with efficient cruise performance. Zuri develops hybrid-electric VTOL aircraft that combine distributed electric propulsion with fixed-wing aerodynamics to address this trade-off. The platform uses multiple tilting propellers to enable vertical take-off and landing while transitioning into forward flight for improved efficiency. A hybrid powertrain supports extended range compared to fully electric systems, with the aircraft designed for mid-range missions exceeding 700 km. The system architecture integrates flight control, propulsion management, and safety redundancy to support stable operation across hover, transition, and cruise phases in varying environmental conditions.

Industrial Fit and Applications
Not all air mobility use cases are urban or short-range. Zuri positions its aircraft for regional passenger transport, cargo logistics, and mission-critical mobility across distributed networks. Typical applications include intercity travel, on-demand regional transport, medical and time-sensitive logistics, and operations in areas with limited airport infrastructure. The concept is particularly relevant for mid-range routes where conventional aviation is inefficient or inaccessible. Hybrid VTOL capability can extend operational flexibility while maintaining range and speed, supporting new mobility models that connect smaller hubs, remote regions, and decentralized landing sites.

Founding Team
Zuri was founded by Michal Illich, who developed the initial hybrid VTOL concept in 2017. The company has since evolved into a multidisciplinary aerospace team with expertise in aircraft design, aerodynamics, propulsion systems, and software engineering. Zuri brings together engineering, testing, and operational capabilities to advance hybrid-electric VTOL aircraft for regional air mobility.
