Forest restoration often fails not because the need is unclear, but because scale, terrain, timing, and ecological fit make conventional planting difficult to execute effectively. Across Central Europe, drought, bark beetle damage, and storm events have created large degraded areas that require faster and more adaptive regeneration strategies. Skyseed develops direct-seeding systems designed to support reforestation and forest conversion through biologically enhanced seed treatment and mechanized deployment. The company combines ecological planning, pelletized forest seed, and application methods including drones and tracked forestry equipment. By aligning seeding methods with terrain, species, and site conditions, the approach aims to support more resilient and operationally scalable forest establishment.
Technology and Product
At the center of Skyseed’s approach is a coated forest seed system designed to improve the practicality of direct seeding in challenging restoration environments. The company processes seed from origin-certified stands and applies a forest-specific protective coating intended to reduce predation and support germination and early establishment. Its workflow also includes artificial stratification and seed priming to expand the range of species that can be deployed through direct seeding. For field application, Skyseed combines autonomous heavy-lift drones with ground-based forestry machinery, allowing seed pellets to be distributed across steep slopes, disturbed forest sites, and other hard-to-access terrain with site-adapted precision.

Industrial Fit and Applications
The strongest case for mechanised forest seeding emerges where restoration needs are large, urgent, and difficult to address through planting alone. Skyseed positions its system for reforestation after drought, bark beetle damage, wildfire, and other forest disturbance events, as well as for long-term forest conversion and protection forest restoration. Typical applications include degraded open areas, steep slopes, inaccessible terrain, and sites requiring rapid ecological stabilization. The concept is also relevant where mixed species establishment and lower-cost regeneration are priorities in climate adaptation and forestry operations.

Founding Team
Skyseed was founded by Ole Seidenberg, Dominik Wind, and Simon Wind, combining expertise in forest restoration, seed technology, operations, and deployment logistics. The founding team built the company around the idea of making direct seeding more scalable and ecologically adaptive for reforestation, forest conversion, and restoration in increasingly climate-stressed landscapes.
